— About

District CM School of Excellence, Gumla, formerly known as S.S. +2 High School, Gumla, has a rich history that dates back to 1939, before India gained independence. This esteemed institution has played a pivotal role in the development of Gumla town and the surrounding district. Over the years, the school has made significant progress, transitioning from humble mud-house classrooms to becoming a senior secondary school in 1990.

The school proudly boasts a glorious track record of producing numerous professionals, including army personnel, teachers, doctors, engineers, civil service officers, and responsible citizens. While there was a time when the school faced challenges due to disciplinary issues, the arrival of competent and passionate teachers in the past couple of decades has brought about a positive change.

Students from remote areas of Gumla district, such as Jairagi, Dumri, Chainpur, Jari, and Tongo, reside in hostels or lodges, while some student rent rooms in Gumla town. Students from Raidih, Ghaghra, and Palkot either commute by bus or use auto-rickshaws to reach the school.

The school takes immense pride in the fact that none of its students have ever joined anti-social groups like Naxalites or PLFI. In the early 90s, many youths in the area were swayed towards such activities, but the dedicated teachers of the school deserve appreciation for their unwavering commitment to guide and protect their students from going astray. In 2010, the school began offering education under the National Institute of Open School (NIOS) Board, providing flexible learning options for students who are unable to attend traditional school regularly due to various reasons.

Additionally, the school offers the National Cadet Corps (NCC) program since 1965. Each year, 50 cadets are selected for a two-year training course in Troop number 01/46 under the 46 Jharkhand Battalion NCC, Gumla.

Furthermore, the school provides opportunities for students to participate in NSS (National Service Scheme) and Student Police Service, enabling them to engage in community service and develop leadership skills. Edit
